I'm not comfortable at all with the comparison. Especially with saying our guy is making throws that the great JM couldn't make.
And I'm not sure that comparison is very helpful in and of itself.
One of the wondrous things about human beings is that a large number of them can do the same thing and still be somehow unique in how they do it.
Like walking. Sometimes you can identify a friend from far away just by the way he walks. Why is that?
Everybody walks the same way, right? One foot in front of the other. But subtle differences are there. Like faces.
Well, I see that with QB's throwing the ball. No two of them look exactly alike doing it.
Jared Goff reminds me of ... Jared Goff.
Chris Collinsworth referred to him as "Gumby" on one replay of a successful throw.
He has this very flexible overhand slinging motion, kind of rubber-armed (in a good way) that puts the ball right through a half open window.
I like it, because it's his own thing, and not anyone else's.
I was using Montana as a reference point for QB "calmness" under pressure, Sag.
I almost inserted the disclaimer that stated that I wasn't literally comparing Goff to the HOFer. But I didn't because I knew what a sophisticated audience we enjoy on this board. (Wink).
BTW, I stand by my assertion that Montana did not have the arm for that 47 yarder.
