No proof here. And I will say if you look at Philips defenses in Houston and Denver the past 5-6 years they had some good seasons vs the run. But my opinion is he doesn't necessarily emphasize run defense as core to their success. Now of course he doesn't want 229 yards put up against his team by any means. But his defenses are mainly about getting pressure on the QB and generating turnovers. If they give up some yards on the ground along the way, so what.
Now personally few things bother me like bad run defense. But I am a child of the 70s and 80s....
Again, just a theory. And I do think adjustments will be made. He's absolutely right that these guys are still new to this defense. And while Donald was OK last week he had to have been rusty. I am skeptical about Ogletree and Barron as ILBs against power running teams. But it's a talented defense and I think they rebound.
