Wouldn't they have to be able to sign him?

September 06, 2017 01:16PM
I think his agents make him a little less attractive but I still think a few (maybe several) teams would be willing to pony up to sign him. Perhaps it depends on the GM's philosophy. For example, do you pay a non-QB what appears to be QB money? And we don't know how much we are talking either. It seems safe to assume that we are north of $20 million a year. Anyway, that might narrow the field a bit but I think some would be comfortable paying him more than that. IDK.

Anyway, I would take a 1st (early or late) but if late I would insist on a 3rd or 4th pick. But I might just want to rid myself of the distraction too. In the end I don't see many good or bad options realistically. Pay a ransom or lose an elite player. My personal philosophy is to pay a franchise QB huge money and play it tight with other positions. If the Rams have the cap adjusted where they can pay Donald $25 million a year and its not going to make it difficult cap-wise then I might go that route.

If a trading partner and Donald were able to agree on a contract, then maybe a team would hand over 2 #1's for what appears to be a future HOF'er.

Personally I am discouraged that Donald chose a notoriously difficult and money grubbing agent to represent him. Well aware that a hold out was more probable than not. But its his decision to get as much money as he can. Not the route I would go but then I am not in a position to make $20 plus million a year and maybe that would change my perspective. Plus the violence of the game and the high probability of having football related issues later in life. Hard to fault someone who is trading quality of life for money.

All conjecture fwiw.
