There does seem to be a lot of pressure to re-up a player we have total control of for at least 4 yrs. This situation seemed to have begun in an emotional place. I hope I am wrong.
It;'s because the Rams are not approaching it as having him "under control." They're approaching it as him being a special player who has earned more.
They want a happy invested AD, and they want to signal to their entire roster that they take care of deserving players.
I don't know why that's emotional particularly. I just think that often, when we see someone make a policy decision we don;'t agree with, because we don't agree with it, we think, well they're not being rational. When in fact the truth is, we just have a different view of it, it;s not that we are automatically more rational and they're not.
