But I can see it out on the field regardless of who's out there, what the score is, or how much time is on the clock. There is a "try hard" that is different from what it has been in the past. Not reckless abandon, but focused.
It's not just a matter making some big plays. It is, as you say, visible THROUGHOUT the game, whoever is out there. Indeed, I think you see it best in the 2nd half of a PS game when the top talent is wearing baseball caps. No matter who is out there, people are in the right place doing the right things. The defense got stop after stop before finally yielding a TD, and key to it all is that they swarm to contain the ball. Even if the other team makes a play, it is quickly tackled and contained.
Of course, we got all those 3rd Q stops, but the offense didn't cash in. Nevertheless, I saw an offense making play after play, not quite enough for scoring drives, but multiple cases of fine runs and completed passes. Everything sound and pretty darn well executed.
We saw that from the 1s, the 2s, and the scrubs. Every unit, to use your term, focused and intense. Sitting here writing this, I hit on what it is. It's a matter of controlling space. Containing the other offense. And creating space for the good guys to work.
It takes great competitive discipline for an NFL offense or defense to control space on a consistent basis. And all our units did that. (Except perhaps for STs!)
When you see it in unit after unit, player after player, it comes down to ... yes. Coaching.
As WV put it last week, this is a well coached team. You can SEE THAT. And it would have been true if a couple of breaks had gone the other way. These guys know what to do, are placed in the right place and given the right role to be successful, and they are all making plays.
God it's great to see. Been a helluva long time.
