I doubt that McVay is totally locked in on Goff at this point. Why would he be? He needs to see Goff show that he is up to the job. And how can he be sure that Goff won't stink it up in the PS and continue to stink it up in the regular season. Goff has not earned it on the field yet.
I don't think McVay will make any bold moves to trade for a QB until next season. The weird thing for me is that I think Mannion stinks, and I would be surprised if McVay thought Mannion was a possible solution. So I have no idea what McVay's back up plan is if Goff stinks it up. Goff is gonna have to be really bad for McVay to bench him. My fear is that I think its likely that if Goff is really bad, switching to Mannion won't help.
Simply put, this year is all about Goff. If he stinks it up, McVay will make a move in the offseason.
