I guess the easy answer would be because they saw what they thought his potential would be.
After going over the four page reply to a post LA put up earlier, that would support this. The last regime shot for potential and swung for the fences. Simple as that.
The point of my post was none of that. Just responding to what I saw as fact, and that this writers analogy was spot-on. You try and speak Mandarin in six months. I dare you. We can debate the hows and whys, which person you would have picked, etc. It's been talked to death. The point is that that the previous regime tried to turn a cat into a dog in a few months, and added with his supporting cast we got a 4-12 season. From my perspective, it was an easy future to predict. We will see if this coaching is better, if this supporting cast is better and if Goff is better within a better system. We can call it what we want, but it won't be better until it actually is. And then we can spend the rest of next off-season debating why.
