There was a large handful of us that wanted Kyle to be the Rams selection but the timing of his availability, combined with the dazzling first interview by McVay turned the HC search upside down.
It seems the Rams were about 90% sold on McVay after his first interview and then they used the (Blizzard-gate) excuse to not give Kyle one single interview. Maybe his interview wouldn't have changed their minds anyway but it will always be a subplot in the way things turned out.
I was actually stunned that Denver passed over Kyle as much as I was surprised how fast McVay had risen up the coaching search ranks.
It really seemed like the 49ers were probably going to offer McVay the job if the Rams were to delay their interest him to further pursue Kyle.
It was a bit wild the way it ended up now that both of these new young HC's will battle twice a year in the NFC West.
When you turn back the clock to the very beginning of the HC searching process, this was not foreseen by anyone how it all unfolded.
