McVay is far to advanced imo to try and pigeon hole Tavon into Jackson type WR... he realizes Tavon is a weapon with enough speed to take the top off... he will get the most out of Tavon and that might be running a few more go routes the way DJax did.
We just see that differently though to coin a phrase, time will tell.
Being dedicated to your system and the kinds of roles you need in it is not the opposite of being advanced.
He could be very advanced in how he sets up his offense and attacks, and still be dogmatic in terms of the kinds of roles he builds that offense around.
Tavon is not his guy...McVay didn't draft him.

1. Thing is, TA is never going to be just a pure xyz type WR... He has immense open field talent.
2. With the emergence of some other pass catchers like Kupp, Everrett, Reynolds etc will only open up more space for him and make him that much more dangerous. I'm expecting a huge turnaround for this entire offense and that includes Tavon.
Point #1, I've been saying that myself about Tavon all along, let alone in this thread. Yeah he is not going to be a pure receiver, and yeah he has a lot of talent. To me given all that, as I keep saying, they used him best in 2015.
Point #2, that remains to be seen. If they try to convert him into a pure receiver I don't think that will work, because no matter how much is going on with the other WRs, he still has to execute---and we have seen over the years that as a pure receiver anyway, he just does not have the full skill set necessary. He's better IMO as a mixed weapon who catches some but also runs some. The question for me is whether McVay is interested in that or if he wants a pure receiver and will not therefore adapt to Tavon.

Your point seems to be that McVay might not be interested in utilizing Tavon's greatest skills and just want to make him a pure WR..
My point is is I just don't think a forward thinking coach like McVay will try to pigeon hole a player like Tavon. At worst Tavon is a pretty good decoy that defenses still have to worry about(see highlight video) at best he can take the top off a defense and score on a long ball on one play and turn around and take a hand off 40 yards for a TD.
We will soon find out, but I'm betting on McVay figuring out a way to utilize TA....the rest will be up to TA.
Well we have very little evidence either way.
It's early and we're both guessing.
And my guess is that yes he is NOT an adapt to what you have kinda guy, he's much more of a "I need Type A and if you're not Type A I move on till I find one."
You know, the way message board guesses go, it could of course turn out that in some unanticipated way, we're BOTH wrong...
