IMHO...........Tavon needs to step up his game.
McVay has an idea in his mind of what he wants TA to do in this offense.
Now, I have a hard time when people try to "compare" players, try to get TA to be DJ. No, I want TA to become the best player he can become because he might be "Better" than DJ. That would be a good thing right? Become the best player "YOU" can become. We don't really know how good TA is yet because our offense has sucked really bad.
Imagine if the Defense has to guard the entire field. They don't know what is coming next and have no idea on who is getting the ball. McVay's "Perfect Storm". This is when TA excels.........But, he still has work to do to become an "Elite" NFL WR.
Thus, TA needs to step up his game. He can't be a one trick pony. He needs to become a reliable WR, catch the ball and get first downs. Fight for 50/50 balls and catch the ball on his crossing routes, which are his "bread and butter" routes IMHO. He can't be a drive killer on 3rd and 8.
The question of course is, can TA do it (expand).
One answer is that he was under-used and under-coached previously so he has a chance now.
I don't subscribe to that. I think he was used the ways he could be used, and that in terms of just being a receiver anyway, he has a low ceiling. So while I don't doubt he will make every effort to step up into a more pure receiver role, I have real doubts about his ability to do that. He doesn't have (to my eyes) a pure receivers vision, field sense, limberness, catch radius, and instincts. As I keep saying, 2015 showed us the best role for TA, and it wasn't as a pure receiver.
And, I wouldn't mind being wrong about all that.
