I'm among those skeptical that he WILL. But he can. He's a very talented player. I just think he's somewhat limited- or at least has been for 4 years. And the real unknown is what percentage of that was on coaching/scheme vs. his own limitations (athletically, mentally, motivation).
He HAS made really good downfield plays before. The video shows things like the corner route TDs vs. TB and NO last year. Deep balls, corners and over the middle routes vs. Arizona in 2015. A nice down the sideline catch vs. BUF last year. That amazing game he had vs. IND as a rookie (one TD being a deep ball). No doubt he can. But can he
with consistency? I don't know.
Right now the best thing he does is run jet sweeps. With his speed and vision if he gets the ball to the outside on runs he absolutely makes things happen. Not sure how much of that McVay ran at WASH. But it's a good part of Austin's game.
