I was very happy Ryan Groy was offered a contract by the Rams but he's not a sure thing to be an upgrade over Barnes. Until we see his play on the field in 2017, I think most people with rational thinking based on Groy's short history, would agree he's a wait and see acquisition should Buffalo let us have him. .
From the recent reports of his play last season and the fact that the Rams had no proven center on their roster at the time of his offer, this definitely makes him more valuable by default VS the 6 games of film he displayed down the stretch last season.
Is Groy Overrated? Maybe, because he only started 6 games at center to close out 2016 for the Bills, although very admirably from some reports..
Another reason he might be overrated is because IF the Rams brass (Kromer) thought he was a big upgrade with lots more upside, you would think the contract offer would've been a bit more to make 100% sure the Bills wouldn't even sniff at the thought of matching it. (just thinking out loud)
Is Groy Underrated? Maybe, because if he played as well in those 6 games as some reports said he did, he might be a late bloomer that got better at his craft with hard work and improved technique/strength, along with the wisdom he gained since being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears on May 11, 2014.
I haven't seen all of his game film yet but I'm going to watch all 6 games if possible in the coming days. Groy is an unknown impact at this time with only 6 NFL games to scout and the insight Kromer has on him. I hope he ends up being better than the money the Rams offered because that on the surface, told me Kromer wasn't quite all in about how special he thought he could be... (again just thinking out loud)
I think there is a good chance he might end up being an under the radar solid signing but I haven't seen enough to make an educated guess yet. Hopefully I can offer some bits of personal insight if I can find all his games and review them by this weekend. Hopefully the Bills haven't matched the offer before that time either
