I don't see any problem with Demoff even though I think the Rams would be better off to add a football mind like Ron Wolfe as President and keep Demoff as COO.
I've heard the comparison made between Demoff and John Shaw and I don't see it. Demoff has NEVER claimed to be a football mind, a player evaluator, etc. He is an operational guy, and when he talks about the football side to the media it's in terms of things like needing to put a better product on the field, etc. He doesn't talk about running more, what kind of Oline we want, do we want a pressure D or a Tampa 2, etc. Shaw fancied himself as more football knowledgable.
Second, it was not Demoff who hired Fisher it was Kroenke. No doubt Demoff is consulted and has input. Fisher essentially hired Snead (not technically, but in reality).
Third, because Kroenke is a businessman first, it is my belief that he sees Demoff as trustworthy and loyal and good at handling finances and general business operations. As a man who owns several large businesses, he needs a Demoff for each one. Notice that Demoff's title is NOT President; it is COO (Chief Operating Officer), which in most corporate structures has more to do with finance and overall business structure than with strategic business planning, or product innovation, or overall administrative management responsibility. But since the Rams don't have a President, then no doubt Demoff has all the day to day management responsibilities. I think it is asking too much of him. It is clear to me that he has handed off the football operations mostly to Snead and Fisher.
The Rams need to add a President on the football side; a guy whose expertise is building and managing a team and not overseeing the business side of it. I'd prefer to see that happen VERY soon, before they hire a coach. But if they do hire a coach first, then it means they will NOT hire a President because no football guy is going to have a HC rammed down his throat before he even takes the job. That HC is too integral to the President's success or failure.
