Why are people throwing names like Pete Carroll out there as HC possibilities? Totally unrealistic. Makes no sense at all.
Sean Payton has been mentioned elsewhere, as well. Why? Another head scratcher. Neither man should be in a serious discussion.
Trust me, Demoff started his HC list long ago. As in months ago. This train wreck could be seen coming for at least that long. Probably pretty refined list by now.
I hope that they have a strong football man installed first. A Polian/Wolf caliber person. Then let HIM conduct the HC search. And do NOT give the new HC final say on personnel matters. Not even for a Jim Harbaugh type. It's a deal breaker for me.
The Ram opening will be the crown jewel of HC opportunities this offseason. They should take full advantage of that. Only consider the very best of the best candidates. Might include a surprising name or two.
Do the interviews asap, consistent with the candidates' bowl or playoff restrictions. Why draw out the process beyond what is absolutely necessary? Hiring asst coaches, draft prep, and FA decisions will be just around the corner. A comprehensive review of our current roster, with an eye to which players are to be retained, released, or traded will require some considerable time, too. The more time for those decisions, the better.
Gonna be a verrrrry interesting offseason, to say the least.
