The gardener is gone: now the weeding takes place.

Let me be clear: this franchise is in a better place as Fisher leaves than what he inherited.
He inherited half a roster of players who didn't even belong in the NFL to start with.

The issue is to take this team from having a respectable roster, to actually winning games. I don't think that the turnover of players is going to be massive, but rather selective.

There are guys that need to go because they just don't have the talent, and guys that need to go because they don't have the right mentality; they're too used to losing and aren't that uncomfortable with it. There are guys that have performed so inconsistently over their careers that they need to go somewhere else (Kendricks comes to mind as example #1). Saffold comes to mind as a guy who is too used to losing and represents the mindset of the former regime.

There are guys who are head scratchers, and I don't know if they're just not good enough or if the coaching staff is not good at developing guys. For instance, GRob. Who, on the online, has EVER developed into a very good player under Bouds? So is it the player or is it the coach? Or both. That'll be up to the new regime to determine.

All any of us have to go on is what we can see from the outside. But what I see is a team that has been babied and coddled by a daddy. Fisher seemed more concerned over his players avoiding injury than pushing them to get better and tougher. I saw little accountability for bad performance by benching players (Gurley should have been benched), and little accountability for coaches when their units didn't perform (Bouds). I saw little accountability by Kroenke for allowing his GM to make some pretty bad choices in player personnel without repercussions, and seemed satisfied enough with an HC that for going on 5 years couldn't even get his team to .500.

Much weeding to be done. And it starts at the top. I think the Rams need a real football guy to run the organization. I think someone like a Ron Wolfe as President with Demoff as COO. Then a hard nosed winner as an HC.....not a college wanna be or never-been-HC hot name OC or DC.

Much to be done. But I've said all along that I think the Rams have a better roster than their record shows under Fisher. So the weeding is likely to be selective and not massive. If the weeding is done well, I can easily see the Rams as vying for the NFC West next season.
