I can't think of any of the guys who left and took HC positions that did well.
Mangini
McDaniels
Crennel
I think a couple of guys have gone to college programs.........but I only list the NFL guys
The Browns were dumb enough to hire two of the three I listed LOL.
Its been a while since his failure in Denver. However, I tend to believe that he has taken advantage of being around Belichick a 2nd time and would have a much better understanding of what being a Head Coach is.
Belichick failed in Cleveland and BTW who doesn't?
Grits
The problem is, the major issues he demonstrated with both the Rams (as an OC) and Denver have centrally to do with his psychology and character as an individual. Yes Bellichick was fired prematurely in Cleveland, but you could see the logic of his choices there. With McDaniels, all I saw was his own vast lack of sound judgment. I don't think he outgrows that, I think he just hides it in New England.
And of course this even assumes Fisher has to be replaced.
My problem btw with coaching hire discussions is that they tend to just hover around a few recognizable names, and aren't very useful. When posters talk about players, you can see the value of it--in the aggregate it's good. When posters talk about coaching hires, the degree of value drops to a fraction of that. No fan is in a position to know that much about the league, who will be good, etc. It's mostly just us repeating some media-favorite names.
