the FG only protected against the dolphins getting a TD and trying for 2 FGs. This possibility was already eliminated by the time left. So, what needed to be protected against was the fins getting 2 TDs.
How do you do that? You get a goddamned first down. By kicking right there instead of going for it, you guarantee no more than 4 seconds are taken off the clock before the dolphins get the ball again.
