Bottom line they drafted Carr and Cooper that has now turned around their franchise and saved McKenzie's job. Any other directed credit on how the Raiders did it is garbage IMO. McKenzie was pretty much gone until he hit the jack pot with those two picks. Bay Area was beyond bleeped with him up to that point. I live here and know.
Those two picks are the difference right now between them and the Ram's failure(Fisher's). Mack is our Donald. Del Rio is an average coach at best. Fisher had no roster when he took over and McKenzie was in salary cap bleep. Fisher has done a decent job turning around the D but failed miserably with the offense. McKenzie did a good job turning around their cap but wasnt doing so well with picks and FA until those two picks. A legit QB and #1 WR is the example of how an NFL team can go from a long time loser to what the Raiders are now.
Starters McKenzie has drafted on offense:
QB Derek Carr - Round 2
RB Latavius Murray - Round 6
WR Amari Cooper - Round 1
TE Clive Walford - Round 3
RG Gabe Jackson - Round 3
RT Menelik Watson - Round 2
Starting FA signings: C Hudson, LT Penn, LG Osemele, WR Crabtree. Every single one of those signings were great signings and McKenzie has built one of the better OL`s in the NFL.

Starters McKenzie has drafted on defense:
DE Khalil Mack - Round 1
DE Jihad Ward - Round 2 (Rookie)
DT Stacy McGee - Round 6
MLB Corey James - Round 6 (Rookie)
SS Karl Joseph - Round 1 (Rookie)
P Marquette King - UDFA
The defense has struggled some but there are 3 rookie starters as well. McKenzie did a decent job in free agency with some defensive moves such as Bruce Irvin and Dan Williams. No question the Raiders weakness is in their secondary, but I guarantee you that McKenzie will take care of that and make it a priority this offseason.
Let`s also remember the Rams and Fisher essentially had 8 1st round picks between 2012-2016, where as McKenzie and the Raiders have only had 4. That is HUGE whether anyone wants to admit that or not.
With 8 of those Rams 1st round draft picks and all their other picks, these are the only starters they have to show for on offense:
LT - Greg Robinson - Round 1 (#2 overall)
RT - Rob Havenstein - Round 2
RG - Cody Wichmann - Round 6
WR - Tavon Austin - Round 1 (cost them #16 & #46 to move up)
RB - Todd Gurley - Round 1
Credit the free agent signing of Britt, but this offense is pathetic.
Lets for argument sake say you are correct in your assessment that, "Those (Carr & Mack) two picks are the difference right now between them and the Ram's failure(Fisher's)." Isn`t it enough that Fisher has had 5 years and 8 1st round picks and could never get the Rams QB situation right? They had Derek Carr in for a visit and was rumored to have liked him. They were even set to make 3 1st round picks that year without drafting a QB, traded up in round 2 (where Carr was taken) for a slot CB, and didn't draft a QB till the end of round 6 in Garrett Gilbert.
Are you implying that McKenzie just got lucky when he drafted Carr? As a GM/player personnel guy McKenzie has blown Fisher out IMO and they both had to rebuild and Fisher had double the 1st round picks. At least the Rams had DE Robert Quinn there when Fisher arrived. Who did McKenzie have that was worth anything that he didn't get rid of?
