January 5, 2012 - Raiders owner Mark Davis hired Reggie McKenzie as general manager of the Oakland Raiders.
January 12, 2012 - Rams owner Stan Kroenke hired Jeff Fisher as Rams head coach with full control (Fisher hired as Rams general manager)
Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie fired head coach Hue Jackson and hired Dennis Allen.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher hired general manager(cough) Les Snead.
McKenzie inherited a roster full of high-priced and underperforming players, with more than $154 million committed toward the $120.6 million salary cap.
2012 NFL draft - The Raiders had traded away most of their draft picks in the 2012 NFL Draft prior to McKenzie`s arrival, leaving McKenzie with his first pick in round 4 at No. 95 overall
2012 NFL draft - Jeff Fisher had the luxury of trading down from #2 to #6 in round 1 of the 2012 draft with the Washington Redskins in the RG3 trade. In addition to the 1st round pick (#6 overall) in the 2012 draft Fisher also acquired a 2nd round pick in 2012, a 1st round pick in 2013 and a 1st round pick in 2014.
•Round 1, Pick 14: Michael Brockers, DT, LSU.
•Round 2, Pick 33: Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian St.
•Round 2, Pick 39: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama.
•Round 2, pick 50: Isaiah Peed, RB, Cincinnati.
•Round 3, pick 65: Trumaine Johnson, FS, Montana.
•Round 4, pick 96: Chris Givens, WR, Wake Forest.
So Fisher and the Rams basically had 6 picks in the 2012 draft by the time Reggie McKenzie and the Raiders had their 1st pick at #95 overall in the 2012 draft. In addition, the Rams received a 1st round pick (#22 overall) in the 2013 draft and a 1st round pick (#2 overall) in the 2014 draft.
The Rams had two 1st round picks in both the 2013 and 2014 drafts in addition to all the above picks in the 2012 draft!
Reggie McKenzie had 4 1st round NFL draft picks between 2012-2016
Jeff Fisher had 7 (8 if you count the #33 overall from 2012 -Brian Quick) 1st round NFL draft picks between 2012-2016
During the 2013 offseason, McKenzie released several starting players such as Richard Seymour, Michael Huff, Tommy Kelly, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and Rolando McClain in continuing the rebuilding process.
2014 NFL Draft - Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie drafts QB Derek Carr with the Raiders 2nd round draft pick, #36 overall.
2014 NFL Draft - Rams Jeff Fisher drafts QB Garrett Gilbert with the Rams 6th round compensatory pick, #214 overall. The Rams did have 2 1st round picks in this 2014 draft and also had a trade in place with Baltimore to move up to #17, which would have secured their 3rd 1st round pick in this draft. QB Sam Bradford was coming off his 2nd and season ending ACL surgery and his cap number was almost $18,000,000 for 2014.
2016 NFL Draft - Rams Jeff Fisher trades up to #1 overall to select QB Jared Goff. Rams give up: 2014 picks - 1st, 2 -2nd`s, 3rd, 2017 picks - 1st, 2017 - 3rd.
On July 29, 2016, Mark Davis announced a four-year contract extension for McKenzie, which will keep him with the Raiders through 2020.
Jeff Fisher`s expected 3 year contract extension is said to be on hold.
Now I`m not sure how much influence (I`m guessing a good amount) that Kroenke had on Fisher moving up for Goff, but at the end of the day he should follow what Mark Davis has done and is doing in Oakland. Keep your nose out of the personnel moves and unless you can find a Bill Bellichick head coach and give him full control, hire a damn good GM first and let him hire his head coach and run the show, while letting your coaches coach. Unfortunately I don`t see Kroenke doing that, as his ego will want to make another splash by personally hiring a big name head coach and I`m sure that coach will want full control once again.
