I think Fisher meant when he said sooner than later he didn't expect Goff to be red shirted this year. When they made the pick I think that was the thinking. He'll probably have to sit and learn for a year but it will be worth it. When Goff got to camp he didn't know anything, but he works hard so later Fish started hinting that it would be Conner than later. If he plays in the first half of the season he would tell you that was right on with his new thinking. In Hard Knocks he brings up Goff's readiness as a staff question and Weinke answers that he's getting it but not ready. I still think game 5 at home versus the Bills. We easily could win this week at be 2-1 under Case. Don't understand the rush. Really at all.
No, I don't think there was ever a thought that JG might have to sit all year. And I doubt Fisher is thinking that now given CK's play to date. Yes, CK could be 2-1 after this weekend, but if he can't guide this team to a couple TD's/ 20 ppg w/some consistency -- AND Goff keeps holding the #2 clipboard while continuously improving on the mental end -- the CK and JG lines will cross "sooner than later."
But, yes, I'm definitely not sweating it 2 games in. That Goff isn't starting isn't remotely a sign of anything "wrong" in my opinion. 9 pts. in two games IS surprising and worrisome to me, but I expect that to change.
