Well I don't think anyone has ever described him as starting caliber, .

Well, Fisher has described Him aus starting caliber
So has Snead
And you. Repeatedly.

Go Rams!

No Neither has described him as starting caliber. And if they did think that then they would have been crazy to trade up for Goff.

.

I remember a lot of interviews where both Fisher and Snead valued him as an NFL starter
Snead even said as far that the Rams would have gone to the playoffs with CK as the starter
If you don't remember it so be it

Go Rams!

I remember the exact same interviews, and the spin you put on it is not the spin THEY put on it. Them saying they could win with Keenum. And btw that's true, if he played all 16 games the way they played his 5 they would have a winning record. But that just means he's good enough to do that on a team with Gurley and a good defense. About the faintest praise you can give a qb as a physical talent is to basically say, you can win with him. cool smiley And that's basically what they were saying.

But they did not say anything which indicated they see him as a franchise qb, a permanent starting caliber type or any of that. And that's an accurate picture. Keenum has the head for the game, he is smart and a dedicated film junkie and student of the game, he has enough downfield accuracy to add a long ball to the offense, but he is not the kind of qb you install as a season in and season out starter, and they never said he was, and they did not treat him like he is.

Remember the last guy they had who they thought was a starting caliber qb...Foles...they extended immediately with a real contract. What did they do with Keenum? There was no offer, they put a league-stipulated 1-year tender on him and THEN spent multiple picks to trade up for a qb. (He is making about the same money in 2016 as Shaun Hill and Chad Henne. Goff gets twice as much.)

If they thought he was a franchise qb, ie. a regular season-in and season-out starting caliber qb, then they treated him with amazing neglect. He's making the money of a back-up caliber qb and they have him for just one year. Imagine Arizona treating Palmer that way.

And if you have any kind of ear at all for listening to coaches and GMs, listen to them talk about why they like Goff. They praise his talent. Then listen to the way they talk about Keenum. They say, basically, you can win with this guy, and nothing is said about pure talent.

When the team looks dark to people, there's always some extremes in the theories you get...and reading any message board means wading through some pretty over the top stuff along with the regular analysis and clashing opinions. With all due respect, the idea that they talked about or treated Keenum as anything but what he IS -- a good #2, a placeholder for Goff--- is just not based on anything real. If they thought that, they would not tie him up with a low-budget one-year tender and they would not trade up for a qb in the draft who they then praise in the highest terms as a prospect. In fact if they DID think Keenum was a franchise qb then the way they actually acted would be insane...everything they did would be massively wrong. But they DIDN'T act like that, nor did they talk like that. '

If you don't agree then we will have to agree to disagree. Anyway, yeah, that's my shot...if we don't agree we don't agree, that's fine.
