Why can't Goff do them?
Remember, they cut things back for Prescott, like you recommended they do with Goff.
And Wentz came from a pro style offense. He was far more ready.
Look at the record of high picked 1st round qbs starting over the last several years. Since Flacco and Ryan, it has been 12 picked...3 were with teams that had winning records. The idea is, if you play them, you live with the losing. Or, actually, in a lot of cases, you're going to lose anyway (which is why you picked that high) so why not.
Even Flacco and Ryan differ from each other. Flacco, who was picked lower and came from a spread, went to a set team that lacked only a qb, and so they could carry him while he learned. It was more like the Roethlisberger situation.
Ryan came from a pro-style offense and happened to arrive when they got a good back, cooked up an offensive line out of nothing, and gave him strong support. They were also 29th in pass attempts with him as a rookie.
If the Eagles keep winning, it will be 4 of 13 instead of 3 of 12. But then also the Eagles, like the Rams, were among a handful of teams in all NFL history that traded far up the draft to 1st or 2nd and took a qb. They were more like the 2008 Ravens--a much more established team (though certainly not AS established). That is as if Baltimore traded up for Ryan (which in fact they tried to do).
