First off who really thinks that LA fans support a winning team better than other cities support a winning team? Especially cities where a team is massively supported even when they aren't winning.
It's totally fabricated, and it's senseless. He pretty much said they aren't really good fans, but they are great when the team is winning. But other teams have fans that are fans win or lose. He compared LA fans to fans in a couple of other cities and said they come up short. But give them glitz and glam and wins and they come out in droves.
Not really a smooth move for a guy who is close to the team.
