IMO? If the issue is knowing the offense and being able to operate it quickly and effectively like 2nd nature---calling protections, calling audibles, reading sight adjustments--- then practicing with the ones would make no difference.
He has to learn his part to the point where it's just confidently part of him.
Ones or no ones, that's stuff taking place in his head.
When he gets up to speed with all that, then, he will have earned time with the ones.
