i certainly agree that different people respond differently to various coaching methods. i will not pretend however to know what motivates goff.
ive seen all of Hard knocks but i dont recall weinke going off on goff, but maybe im wrong. i do recall thinking that boras goes out of his way to comfort goff though. so im not sure whats going on there.
to be honest, i dont recall this whole playbook thing either. but if so, you are correct that it perhaps its a bad idea. conversely though, they did a similar thing with rg3 and quite frankly it may have stunted his growth. he looked lost last year. this year hes showing some signs of life. are they taing a differnt approach in cleveland?
in the end, its just to early to make any sort of definitive statement imo. fishers way may be right or it may be wrong. maybe its bad in the short turn but good in the long run. but jumping to conclusions about coaching, ability or long term success does not make it reality. time will tell and i wish him nothing but the best.

I find statements like this rather amusing as there is no way any one of us have the ability to have an informed opinion about the ability of the coaches to coach.
So what exactly do you think they are doing wrong?
Moreover fisher's actual history with qbs simply doesn't match this narrative. Every single qb Fisher coached had his best year under fisher.
You raise an interesting point, PHD. About what the coaches might be doing wrong, I mean.
This is kinda anecdotal, of course. But in a Hard Knocks scene I recall seeing Weinke speaking to Goff in their meeting room in a way that is probably best described as abusive. Maybe, just maybe, that might not be the best way to teach or motivate this particular kid. I dunno.
Don't get me wrong. I know that that can work wonders with some players. GW to Ogletree being a good example in another Hard Knocks scene. But Goff and Tree have different temperaments and different responsibilities. So should both be receiving the identical "dialogue" technique? I'm not so sure that they should.
Another possible coaching decision mistake for this particular rookie QB might have been when they threw the whole D playbook at him from day one. Making him take a drink from a firehose. Not unlike throwing a swimming student into the deep end on day one and seeing how he does. No baby steps for Goff. That could have made an already steep learning curve for the kid unnecessarily more difficult. Again, I dunno.
Admittedly, I'm no NFL coach, and I certainly don't see the multiple interactions between Goff and his coaches and teammates in meetings and practices. But the kid had a reputation as football smart, instinctive, and possessing a burning desire to win.
I would have thought that he would have been further along by now. That hints to me that something is amiss in his coaching and training. But what do I know?
