Maybe he blossoms if the OLine solidifies and stays healthy, and the WR situation in general gets better. Seems to me, if i am on defense, Tavon is not someone i want to see, on
a team with MORE weapons than just...Tavon and Gurley.

So, are you arguing that if our offense gets better, then Tavon will look better? When you pay a guy a lot of money, isn't it supposed to be the other way around?
Of course, time always tells. But here's my point about the money.
A team has limited money and cap space. Smart teams spend on players that can carry the load, be foundations for growth and excellence.
To me, Goff shows promise of being that. There's no guarantee. He may disappoint. But I look at the Goff package, see the promise, and I think, OK, that's a bet worth making. If he consolidates what he's showing, the cost in money and draft picks would be worth it.
But Tavon, to me, offers little genuine, foundational value. He's not worth the price. Remember--he's no rookie. People--including Ram officials--still talk about what he MIGHT become, as if he's a work in progress.
But we've seen him on the field for years now. We've seen a team with few offensive weapons try to build on him. And the results have been pretty sketchy. As a RB, he's provided a change of pace that was needed because defenses were crowding the LOS. But they were crowding the LOS because our WRs did nothing, and he didn't do anything as a receiver to change that.
It's a waste of money for me because he doesn't address the most fundamental team need. We need a WR. Two, actually. And of course NFL teams need all sorts of things. Spending the cap on the Tavon package does little for me. He's a luxury, like a high end sound system on a rusted out, '02 Chevy.
And probably the worst part of this is what it says about our FO. These guys have STILL not addressed our need for a genuine WR, but they think Tavon is a building block for a Goff offense.
That's scary. Time will tell. For me, time has already told about Tavon. And time will tell if a Fisher led organization is capable of equipping Goff with the WRs he needs to fulfill his promise.
