Suh-weet!
Conventional wisdom is that CK doesn't have much of an arm. And in fact we've definitely seen a bunch of under thrown balls from him down the field. And yet I was just
watching highlights from his Texans days and see a number of 50-yds-in-the-air throws. At the 5:17 mark he uncorks one that goes 60 in the air. And, even there, while he def winds up, a defender in running in on him so he doesn't get to step into it.
He certainly doesn't have an Aaron Rodgers or even JGoff arm. But watching the highlights I'm thinking that his under throws aren't simply or even primarily about lack of arm strength.
A lot of it is timing, anticipation, and seeing the opportunity unfold and making a quick decision. That's what Keenum is. If you can make up for a physical limit by working on your craft and game, he will do that...he works at it. I like to say he's a self-maximizer. He also has a quick mind and a fairly quick release.
He does not have a great arm of course but he does not have a Steve Walsh rag arm either.
He did not throw many passes last year total but he threw long passes of 31 yards or more 6.9% of the time. That's a high percentage in the league. It put him up there among the top guys in terms of percentage of attempts thrown long. I find that anything at 5% or above is in the top third of the league.
