I know he will not disappoint you. Just teach him the techniques and let him mature into that franchise Left Tackle.

He's been painfully slow to pick things up, does not demonstrate the smarts Drew talked about by leading all the universe in penalties and was arguably the worst OT in the NFL his second season in the league. And now he's come to camp overweight and is having difficulty pushing away from the food table. This is all disappointing to me for what's supposed to be "franchise Left Tackle" taken 2nd overall, despite Drew's promise to the contrary.


I do agree with him on the differences between Robinson's and Smith's strengths and weaknesses coming out of college. Robinson's strength was run blocking and his physical strength, weakness pass protection. Smith's strength was his natural athleticism, weakness was run blocking. Never the less, both lacked training and technique necessary to be a blindside protector in the NFL.

The examples of players that went on to become "franchise LT's" that looked like anything but that their first couple seasons and weren't showing the discipline required to get there in their third are few and far between, if any. Maybe he'll suddenly flip the switch, but counting on that is like counting on Jeff Fisher to suddenly morph into Mike Martz.
