Over his first two NFL seasons, tackle Greg Robinson hasn’t developed into the player the Rams hoped he would become when they drafted him second overall in 2014.
Robinson hasn’t been a shutdown blocker in the passing game and was the most penalized offensive player in the league during the 2015 season when he was flagged 16 times (13 accepted) by officials. In addition to wanting to see improved play from Robinson in his third season, the Rams would also like to see him playing at a lighter weight.
Robinson weighs 336 pounds at the moment, 14 pounds above a target weight that he says he’s working to reach before the start of the regular season.
“I’m dealing with a little weight problem,” Robinson said, via ESPN.com. “But it’s camp. … Just eat healthier, try to watch what I eat and don’t snack too much. That’s the main thing. And just be aware of the possibilities of gaining weight. It’s so easy because there’s so much food right now.”
The good news for Robinson is that his performance in the preseason opener was met with positive reviews from coach Jeff Fisher, who said it “may have been the best preseason game that Greg has played to date.” That effort involved only 13 snaps, but any move in the right direction is a welcome one for the Rams offense.
