JT in his chats has said that he knows the Rams coaches last year gave Barnes the highest grades of all their linemen. That's relative of course but still, it hints that the team looks for things in Barnes a lot of his fan-critics don't. Among other things, I think it's clear that Boudreau values both (1) the mental stuff, his smarts and ability to lead and call protections, and (2) his movement skills. In relation to #2, if anyone were to pull up a highlight vid of Gurley's best runs from last year, and watched for Barnes, they would see one reason why they like his movement skills.
A Boudreau center is not a straight-ahead mauler. If you look at his choices at center over the years (McClure, Wells) they're all relatively lighter and they all can move.
