This was a pretty well run pre-season game ... and I am more excited about the 4th quarter now that there are WRs scrambling to make the team and a competent QB getting the ball to them.
The
Great ... never used that in preseason before.
1) Spruce. Goodness. Well I was hoping for him to show a little, and he ended up dropping the whole show on us. Breaking tackles, getting open, using his hands like vices, and having ridiculous field awareness. If one performance ever locked up a roster spot for an undrafted kid, it was this one.
2) HIgbee. I was hard pressed not to put this first. He'll be a seriously large part of the offense ... and his ability to break tackles on the outside is going to cause matchup problems every game.
3) LACK OF PENALTIES. Almost didn't recognize our team.
True alyo, I overlooked the penalty totals and your #1 & 2 greats just happened to be the biggest weakness of the offense other than QB.. Who wouldve thought both of them would perform like it was their 2nd year in a preseason game. No jitters, No look at what I can do diva behavior and most of all................................No DropsiesThe Good4) Troy Hill, didn't even know he was on our team. He was contesting catches and tackling ... I liked him coming out, and I thought he had a solid game.
5) Seau. He ran out of gas, or the O line figured him out ... but he flashed hard for a quarter.
6) Green ... kid has wiggle but doesn't overuse it ... plays within himself and strong and confident.
7) Greg Robinson ... I just liked the way he was moving.
8) I'm guessing our first TD drive was good, but we had a storm here, power went out, and I missed the whole drive ... anyone wanna fill me in?
9) Cam Thomas as 4th DT ... again, totally forgot he was on our team. He looked spry and had his hands really moving. Curious to see if he gets himself fully together.
10) McRoberts looked decent after he shook the nerves off.
11) Cooper looked good returning kickoffs.
12) Malcolm Brown runs big. I think this is the first year he's been fully healthy since his freshman year at UT. Even without Tre we have a serious stable of RBs.
13) Blocking assignments and routes seemed to be coherent and intelligent. Nice job Groh.
14) Sensabaugh ... He gave up two really tough catches .. but he was all over Bryant.
15) Westbrooks getting around the corner ... way to go big guy.
I really liked the play of 2nd year player Troy Hill.. He had lots of good scoop coming out of Oregon and was a one to watch UDFA for Cinci but he for what ever reason floundered as a rookie. I like that he's not a rookie because early signs show we need some more depth at corner.
RB A.Green & WR Mike Thomas were 2 that I was excited to see... glad one of them showed up in a uniform ready to perform.... Damn I was tired of reading all the ink on so many of these guys leading up to the preseason and like everyone very glad to see some of them stand out in a live gameThe Confusing16) Why so few reps for Gaines?
17) Why do Coples and Easley look confused?
18) Why give so many reps to Chase Reynolds?
Gaines, Easley, Coples... I expect 2 of the 3 to show much more in the next 2 games assuming their health holds up. Chase and Marquez until proven different are more of the same. SP Teams aces and for me the Rams don't need both of them at the expense of solid player getting left off of the 53 The Bad19) The starting defense looked kinda soft ... and gave up an 80 yard drive to Dak prescott.
20) Blown special teams assignment by whom?
21) Coop ... you gotta hang on to that across the middle, I know the NFL hits harder ... but still.
22) Tavon ... catch the ball.
Coop better be on the jugs machine after practice this week... Tavon is Tavon... Dak was the MVP of both teams hands down..The Ugly22) Mike Thomas .. CATCH THE BALL. Wow.
M.Thomas has fallen from grace... how quickly the tide can change after 1 preseason game. He's been inconsistent in camp and it carried over to the game. The hype of all the young WR's was a reality check at the coliseum.. heck McRoberts and Duke might have a say about the sure fire lock Thomas was to make the team. Looking forward to how these 3 WR's play vs the Chiefs..
I liked pulling Goff .. he made some solid throws, got some anxiety out, and got a sack and an INT ... good first outing to build on.
I personally didn't like the pulling of Goff until I heard his left shoulder went stiff during halftime.. Goff needs an entire half next week unless he's not getting sacked every other snap etc.. True he got to build on a tiny slice of preseason ball and Fisher said he would get more live reps with the 1's this week in practice..Anyways, thoughts and comments welcome.
