I've lived in the Detroit area for many many years now. Lots of my friends are Lions' fans.
There were three general camps or viewpoints on Stafford here:
1) Stafford is great, he's been held back by bad teams and real bad to mediocre coaches.
2) Stafford is good, but he's been beaten up and injured too much, it's time to trade him to get what we can for a rebuild.
3) Stafford is overrated, he misses too many passes, he gets injured too often, he's never taken the team to the next level, trade him for what you can get out of him for a rebuild.
I wanted to keep Goff because I think he can develop into an excellent QB. Now that we have Stafford I believe that if he plays up to his normal standard we should be SB contenders.
Previously Speed asked a great question on how we rated our team, whether or not we were SB contenders. I thought back then we were only playoff quality team. Now, with Stafford I believe that barring any unforeseen bad things or personnel changes, the Rams are SB contenders. I'm looking forward to next year.
If we get two high quality years out of Matt Stafford the trade will certainly have been worth it.
