I don't think that is something that tipped the scales. There was a run on DTs. You pick 2-3 guys that you want to get at that position with your pick. 2 of them go and so you are left with 1. You see that as a priority position to get, but also scouted that there are 1-2 teams ahead of you that will also grab a DT.
This was more of a... "there's only 1 guy left that we were targeting" type of move vs let's pair them together so we have to trade up.
If Newton doesn't go and then other teams didn't make a run at Oro and Sweat, then I think the Rams would have stayed put.
They put their contingency plan on when their top DT targets came off the board quickly.
