This is the thing with me I've know several young men who kept growing until age 23-24. And I mean
growing. From 20 until fully sprouted, an extra inch or couple of inches of height, while the body fills out with additional pounds of muscle or blubber, depending on genes and/or temperament.
Is Chop all the way filled out as a man, yet? We don't know.
Is he all the way coahed up into what he could beome as an NFL player? Highly unlikely.
Is he worth an early pick, based on ceiling? To my mind he's a developmental player with exciting upside, but risky as a starter. I'd want a potential starter with that early pick - and Chop probably ain't there yet.
His ceiling seems to be how far he can push his will and determination into his own development. At that point as fans we're guessing at what we don't know in areas where Snead and Co. have insight.
Like you, I'm trusting them. What Snead has done all along in building roster is working - working real well.
My best guess is that somebody makes an early grab at Chop. One that seems like a reach. In a couple of years the board is likely to read, "Gee, we shoulda drafted Chop." I'm OK with that, unless we draft a another speedy little wideout who doesn't make the grade.
