I think they could restructre Stafford

I don't think they will restructure Stafford this year and I certainly don't expect the Rams to cut him after this season ... but if they did both they would still get a cap savings in 2025.

As it stands they can cut Stafford after this season and reduce his cap hit in 2025 from $50.5M down to $24M. (I know overthecap doesn't say that, but if the Rams are going to cut him they will do it before that Option Bonus or the Roster Bonus is paid. So I didn't count them - just the Prorated Signing Bonuses from '25 and '26.)

Suppose they restructure Stafford by converting $21M of this year's salary to a signing bonus. That signing bonus would be distributed evenly across the remaining 3 years of his deal at $7M a year and increase the Prorated Signing Bonus amounts in '24, '25, and '26 from $12M to $19M.

The net effect: $14M in cap space in '24, and an extra $7M against the cap in '25 and '26.

Then if the Rams cut Stafford after the '24 season (before the Option Bonus or the Roster Bonus is paid) the $38M in Prorated Signing Bonuses would go against the '25 cap, saving the Rams $12.5M.
