I agree. I think he feels he has slipped a little and doesn't want to keep playing if he's not The Man. And he'd rather go out at least near the top, then keep playing at a declining, albeit very strong, level. I think he sensed his best days were behind him and he did not want to suit up if he is not perceived as the same dominating force.
