OzRam, you hit the nail on the head.
I have screen shots from both [
www.spotrac.com] and [
overthecap.com] below and I think we can piece together the number combining info from the two of them.
Spotrac still has his old contract info, but I think they account for his option bonus correctly. And Overthecap has the current contract data but I think they mishandle that option bonus.
Referring to the Spotrac screenshot (the first one): under ADs old deal they show $16M dead cap in 2025 and they get that by accounting for the pro rated signing bonus in 2025 and 2026 ($8M each year). But they don't include that option bonus from either year, which I think is the correct way to handle that.
Now take a look at the screen shot from Overthecap (the second one). They show his salary in 2024 reduced to $1.125M and also show an increase in his pro rated signing bonuses in '25 and '26 from $8M to $12.6M. In addition his cap hit in 2024 is reduced from $34.17M to $25M. That seems to accurately reflect his restructured deal.
But when Overthecap shows his dead money in 2025 as $38.5M they include the option bonus charges from '25 and '26 in that total. I think that is a mistake and that his dead money in '25 should only include those pro rated signing bonuses from '25 and '26. They total around $25.2M and I think that's the right number to use.
That's my best guess and I am open to the possibility that Overthecap is right ant Spotrac is wrong. Anyone know for sure please chime in.
