I don't know if Fields is a possible heir to the throne type, but I am not sure that Wentz is either, because I hope Stafford will hang around another 3-5 years at which time Wentz viability will be used up as well. I see Fields as a stop gap while he is on the rookie contract, even utilizing his 5th year option won't be that expensive per se. If he hits hurray if he doesn't he is a vastly better backup than Rypien was. Like mentioned earlier McVay has some fascination with a Feilds type qb because he kept Bryce Perkins on the active roster. For me Perkins isn't my preferred option but if the Bears are thinking of giving him away for a 5th then I can see that as a small price to pay for a Taysom Hill type that might spell Stafford for a game or two if injured.
