Thanks Deadpool,
You've got a good point.
I watched some highlights of Penn State games on youtube and saw just what you point out; Chop at this point has few pass rush moves.
You see
extreme quickness off the ball and around the corner , but when he doesn't get around his opponent, he's done for that rush.
With his extreme athleticism, you would think coaches could help him add various moves?
If he were to use just a spin move 5/6 times a game, you would think he gets to the QB another 3 times?
I'm not sure why, but he plays just 60%? of Penn State's defensive snaps.
He has only
half as many pass rush snaps as Latu and other sack leaders.
If he had as many pass rush snaps as others, odds are his sack total would be higher.
Add in a spin move now and then and he probably adds a few more and is up with the sack leaders?
But that leads to the question - why are Penn State coaches putting him out there only 50% - 60% of the time?
What looked more problematic to me was he doesn't seem to play hard at various times.
He never tried to run down a play from behind or across the field in video I saw even though with his speed/quickness he had many chances.
He does not give 2nd/3rd effort to get to the QB or play once he's stopped by an OL.
If he played with more effort you see from others, he would have much higher numbers.
All of this is my amateur opinion.
