This kid answers the bell. He is still developing. He is doing a good job.
No, he's not an All-Pro and it is unlikely that he will be. My response to that is....so what? You can't have a line up of stars because the salary cap is meant to prevent that except perhaps for a single "all-in" season.
I would be happy to see Jackson sign a 3 year deal, allowing him to have a big second contract if he does really well, but allowing the Rams to have a pretty decent LT who has proven he works well within their system. How much? Maybe something like 3 years $20 mil, maybe 6 or 7 mil guaranteed (in other words, his first year guaranteed).
And by "anointing" I mean pay him. Jackson right now is doing the job I agree. He's not elite though and when it comes to LT the price is steep. So for this year it's easy because they need to tender him, but this upcoming season is a big one for him and the team in determining the way forward.
I don't know that he's our long term LT. Sort of think he's not in fact. And I respect what he's done. It's just that we're a pass first team, we have an old QB who goes full gunslinger when he feels insecure in the pocket, and we want to maximize his remaining time.
There is a real possibility the Rams draft a LT prospect this year at 19, and move Jackson to RG. And that is a spot he can be expected to settle in at, where it is more appropriate for his feet. Because he is never going to be an elite LT with those feet. He's strong, confident, and gets the job done but he might be a pro bowler at guard instead of a guy who is just getting by on the blindside edge.
