Now that is was pointed out, I can see Deebo does have a lot of trouble separating from man to man coverage.
Bringing a LB up forcing the OL to block one on one instead of their desired double teams makes a lot of sense (especially vs. the Niners), unless the opposing coach or QB sees it and adjusts at the line? Blitzing a safety/LB over Trent Williams forcing him to pick it up eliminating him as a major blocker seems smart.
Does Purdy ever change plays at the line? It doesn't seem so (or rarely) to me, certainly not like a Manning/Stafford are allowed to do.
Maybe Spags saw this and took advantage of it. No fear of an audible to Kittle or other if they squeezed up to the line to stop the run.
Seems like KC said we are going to stop the run, man up your top 2 receivers with McDuffie and Sneed and force
your oline to protect and your young QB to beat us with his arm.
They played "soft" blitzes in the first half (one LB over a lineman) coupled with soft zones and 2 deep safeties to "fool" SF/Purdy into thinking they would have the usual easy throws in the middle of the field to which they are accustomed? But then as the game went on,
especially on third downs, KC brought more blitzers often very well disguised (a CB or S) and SF/Purdy were thrown off/unable to produce the plays needed.
I hope Ram's coaches, as well as others in the league, see this.
Of course, had Shanahan changed a play here and there from run into the teeth of their defense to play action passes, maybe the outcome is different?
