Mundt was a block first, catch second TE, I think but am not sure, and they let him go.
Hopkns is catch first, block second, I think but am not sure, and they might let him go this season? At least the writer thinks so?
It seems to me that they both have hands and can block, but maybe not as well as Higbee.
It seems to me that to McVay a second tight end is basically a wasted roster spot unless maybe a special teamer, maybe? A second TE is basically injury insurance - not an essential component in game day planning.
I think, but am not sure, that McVay wants everything in a TE that fits his system, and wants proficiency in all of it: nun blocking, and being another receiver in the pass pattern until the ball goes elsewhere and then switching to downfield run blocking for the receiver, very seldom chip blocking on pass plays, but some.
Or so it seems to me but again I'm not really sure what McVay wants in a tight end - but he only wants one tight end on the field. I cannot recall a time when he used two tight ends.
