So if you're looking at 5 QBs ... all but Penix coming off ... (and he legitimately could as well) ...
We're looking at
3 elite WRs.
1 elite TE.
1 elite DT (Newton)
3 elite edges.
3 elite OTs
3 elite CBs (2 Bama boys and Mitchell)
That's MY top 19.
The powers that be have 1 more DT, one more OT, and Fautano in that section. Some have Brian Thomas Jr. Also.
Given that, I'm guessing we trade down a few spots for another 3rd or more for another 2nd.
If we stay? I would think Newton would be highest on my board or mckinstry.
Newton could actually be as good of a replacement for Donald as could be found.
I might also snag Thomas there at WR and not worry about the position even if kupp deteriorates.
Lot of options.
5 QBs: Williams, Maye, Daniels, McCarthy, Nix
3 WR: Harrison Jr, Nabers, Odunze
3 OTs: Alt, Fashanu, Fuaga
2 Edge: Verse, Turner
1 TE: Bowers
Thats who I see as locks for top 18 assuming the 5 QB scenario (I don't think Nix is a 1st round QB personally), as of today. Medicals and other weird stuff can occur, workout injuries, arrests, flag flag background checks, etc...
Thats 14 players. Who else can fill those spots:
Latu - His neck medical eval will be everything for this kid. If one team in the top 20 passes him that needs him, he's a lock to be gone. Or he slides if that medical comes back bad
CBs galore, I can't get a great feel yet. I know who I like
McKinstry - He feels like a guy that is going to have to go to a scheme specific team that loves press man.I can absolutely see him slide into round 2 like Joey Porter Jr did a year ago
Mitchell, Wiggins, Arnold and DeJean are my top 5 CBs as it stands and I could make a case for any of them going off as the 1st CB drafted, its all about team fit. I think DeJean fits the Rams best, closely followed by Mitchell then Wiggins and lastly Arnold. The Rams should have a shot at at least 1 of these guys.
OL:
Latham, if someone needs a RT. I can see a guy like Guyton climbing into the top 20 (I wouldn't go that high for him), Barton is a guy who coaches are gonna love on film and in the interview process and he'll be the top OC/OG combo, does someone reach on Mims' crazy upside (and massive bust factor)
DT: Newton, my top guy, should be gone. Murphy II? people seem to like him a whole lot more than Alyo and I
WRs: After the big 3 any of these guys can crack the top 18:: Thomas Jr, Coleman, Franklin, Mitchell. Maybe Worthy. Walker dropped his way out of the 1st round literally.
Edge: Chop Robinson - he is gonna test through the roof at the combine, and could improve his stock into the top 20
But for the 4 spots left to fill the top 18 we have:
2 EDGE: Latu, Robinson - I'd like either of these guys
4 CB: Mitchell, DeJean, Arnold and Wiggins - I'd be happy with all 4
4 OL: Latham, Guyton, Barton and Mims. Of these I only like Barton
4 WR: Thomas Jr, Coleman, Mitchell and Franklin. Of these guys I prefer Thomas Jr and Coleman
2 DT: Newton and Murphy II. I only like Newton
Thats 16 players for 4 spots, of those 16 I'd be more than happy with 10. So even if 4 of the 10 go I like, the Rams have a shot at 6, its a no brainer trade down IMO. (assuming the FO thinks like I do, which I know they don't)
THen throw in Darius Robinson, who seems like a Rams DL, and thats another
If I were to guess who fills those 4 spots: Newton, Latu, Arnold, Wiggins
Leaving the Rams:
Edge - Chop Robinson
WRs - Thomas Jr. and Keon Coleman
CBs - DeJean and Mitchell
OL - Barton
I'd be so tempted to draft Coleman, but my brain says take a CB. Chop is too raw, and I don't see the Rams drafting an IOL in round 1.
