Warner is reading Goff through the eyes of a quarterback who can read it all and react almost instantaneously - himself. I never, ever, saw a quarterback who could slice up a defense like Warner.
Goff, though much improved since his Rams days, is no Warner. Goff misses reads and still doesn't
anticipate where the ball should go and get rid of it on some plays. Marino, Montana, and Warner could do that.
Goff is a better-than-average game manager at this point, with accuracy and a nice long ball. He's occasionally a game-changer, now that he's in a system that caters to his strengths and accomodates for his shortcoming, and with tools around him that he can win with - very good, but not great. And that's not a knock. The greats are very few, and there's no shame in facing it: he's not among them.
He's come a long way since his release from the Rams. I wish him well - mostly.
