Couple of my own draft preferences:
First, Always take BPA according to your own board. Not Mel Kipers board or Daniel Jeremiah's board or the other 31 teams boards. Every team's board is different. THe only exception is QB. If you have one, and he's gonna be around for a while, ignore QB in round 1.
Second, I'm not a huge fan of drafting a TE, RB, RT (unless you have a left handed Q
, OG and OC in the first round. TEs seem to be high risk early and they all seem to take time to develop. RBs value just isn't there. Outside of LT, seems like the rest of the line has better value later in the draft.
THe 4 most important positions on the field are the guys that throw the football, the guys protecting the blind side of those throwing the football, the guys rushing the the guys throwing the football and the guys defending the guys catching the football. So, QB, LT, edge rushers and CB.
As far as CB vs edge rusher, I don't care how great your CBs are, if you cannot get to a QB, those CBs are in trouble. They cant defend for 5 or 6 seconds. I get nervous about drafting a CB, because teams seem to reach for guys because they feel they absolutely need 1.
Great pass rushers IMO are harder to find than good CBs.
So for me (in the first round) in order: QB, LT, Edge, CB, WR, IDL, S, IOL and RT, TE, RB, MLB
Did that clarify anything? BTW, if I'm rebuilding and don't have a dependable LT, I am not drafting a QB to get destroyed. Fix the OL, then get a QB then add weapons.
