I am one who thinks the error occurred on 3rd down.
Why try to bite it all off? If you get half of it, either you go for it on 4th down, or even possibly try a 62 yard FG. (Maher has made 4 60+ up to 63).
So you get 8 yards and have a more manageable 4th and 6.
In other words, it was 4 down territory, but of course you can't for 4th and 14 with 4 minutes left, 1 timeout (SMH) and the 2 minute warning.
But you can go for 4th and 8 or 4th and 6.
But it's all hindsight. Bigger error was red zone inefficiency.
But I'm not worried because McVay said he'll clean that up.
