The league is not in the business of providing viewing services to non-paying fans. The league regards fans who don't payper view as a hangover from a bygone era, when another national ethic prevained. Save for the revenues generated by payments from TV networks the league regards its television audience as an annoyance to put up with until the transition to converting everything they do to a direct revenue stream can be completed. When cable and pay-per-view pays more, and the league gets a chip off of every "sunscription" and every game-time ticket sold, "free" TV viewing of NFL games will dry up.
Sound cynical? Look at what was, what is, and where the trajectory is headed. What I say above comes from clear and objective observation when I step aside from my fandom and take a cold, hard look at what I see, and go where that observation leads.
I love the game. But I'm not a fan of the National Football League.
