for all the obvious reasons.... but even more:
I started rooting for the Rams in the 50's. It was a tough 10 years after that... but then came George Allen. In 1967 it began.... by that I mean... Rams became "winners".... and they kept it up for the next 20+ years. I came to expect the Ram's in the playoffs... even though they missed a year here and there.... they were 'winners'.
Then came the 90's... lot of fans just 'coming of age' didn't see the Rams the way I did. I remember well trying to tell my 'new found' St. Louis fans that I STILL considered the Rams 'winners'... but it was a rough start.... a rough start that culminated in what I think is the single greatest season any NFL team has ever had. I was elated for my Rams... and my newfound friends in St. Louis. I did no little amount of bragging to them - "Told you! RAMS ARE WINNERS".
And then... and then... and then.... 2005-16..... it tested me, it hurt like hell. And yet.... '67 will NEVER go away. RAMS ARE WINNERS... Just wait and see.
What I'm getting at here is.... I cannot overstate the respect I have for McVay and what he has done for our Rams. Sure, I curse him at times, often in fact.... but I've done that with every coach the Ram's have ever had.
This may not be the strongest team we've ever had.... but then.... neither was the '79 team and look what they did!
Every year since I've been Ram's fan and they've made the playoffs I always paused and thought of all those teams that won't be playing in the playoffs. This year is no different. And not in a 'ha ha' manner... not at all.... but yes to a "My Rams Are Winners" manner.
2023. I have to admit, and I'm ashamed to do so.... that after the 90's, and the pre-McVay drought.... last year scared me. "Please, don't let this be the beginning of a skid from grace".... I didn't think it would be but I have to admit... it scared me. But even optimistic that it would NOT not be the beginning of a drought I thought "2024... perhaps '25"....... 2023?????????????????
We're in the show, guys! Come what may.... we're playing next week! And surprise though it may be.... it's where our Rams belong.
