Dick Vermeil was out from 1983 to 1996 I believe. And he was out of football as an announcer, which did help him a bit.
And Raheem Morris has been an offensive guy as well, not always on the defensive side.
Morris should get a shot this year....
I wonder if any former HC has gone back to being a coordinator WITHOUT retiring or stepping away from the NFL for any length of time?
Morris has remained in the NFL for the entire 14 years since his last HC gig and hasn't had any serious HC job offers since. It's really mind blowing and IMO says a lot about how he was viewed as a HC after his last HC job.
I don't know what happened at his last gig but it must have been important enough to keep from being a HC ever again. Maybe he is just one of those guys who aren't good as a HC but excel at the coordinator level?
I agree with you. Morris has done enough this year to be given a legit shot at a HC job. To do what he has done with a roster full of unknowns IMO has been very impressive.
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
