Several factors contribute to Stafford being the most underrated QB ever.
He played the majority of his career, when he was in his prime physically, with a disaster organization in a small market.
He doesn't wow anyone with his running ability, he's a pure drop back QB like Marino, PManning and Brady.
He hasn't won enough, and no one cares that he hasn't had the same situation as those other drop back guys.
He's thrown a lot of INTs. And a lot of that is him trying too hard to force things in a bad situation. A bad habit he developed after years in Detroit.
I truly believe if Stafford and McVay were together for all of Stafford's career he'd be a shoe-in for first ballot HOF. He'd also have several SB wins by now.
It's mind boggling to me that people actually think Purdy is a better QB than Stafford. I guarantee you Shanny would swap Purdy for Stafford in a heartbeat.
With one caveat, he's had an elite receiver most of his career, Johnson and Kupp. Johnson especially, he's just different. One more thing is he's streaky, always has been. Sometimes it's short but IMO he's got about the right amount of gunslinger that does not go over the edge too often but can and he will have an off month --- in a lo (not all) he'll have a bad streak he has to work through and I think it's more often than the elites of his era.
He has elite arm talent, and toughness...he has elite traits but it is hard to know if he'd have more SB wins ... he;d have to have beaten Brady, etc ... Manning,as great as he is only has one. Rodgers, too. And I know people hate Rodgers' personality but he's more elite than Stafford and he still has one.
But it is Rodgers that may be the closest comp to Stafford but Rodgers did have better teams backing him. But Stafford as some of those same elite
traits.
Stafford is kind of a cross between Rodgers and Favre.
